Gansu Province Museum has a total building area of 18,000sqm. Specialist from the former Soviet Union designed the museum, which, when viewed from above, takes on the shape of the Chinese character “山”, meaning mountain. The lecture hall on the ground floor is installed with a combination of 84R in the radiated shape and cell in the standard form, creating an imposing ceiling effect, as if there a vast expanse of the solar system lies just above our heads. The four exhibition halls in the flanked wings are set apart by their saddle-shape roofs which span over 20m, and are installed with Luxaflex® FTS motorized skylights. The skylights are all equipped with mechanical transmission control systems, making it possible to meet the challenging sun-control requirements specific to properly displaying and preserving cultural relics while also achieving precise lighting effects. The curator of Gansu Province Museum, Mr. Ejun observed that the sun-control products of Hunter Douglas combine an element of refined aesthetics with excellent utility to perfectly suit the needs of the museum.
