The Wuhan Station is the originating station of the Wuhan-Guangzhou line and encompasses a total building area of 355,000sqm. The wavy contour communicates a mellow cultural aura that highlights its local context. The undulating roof is composed of nine billowing eaves that rise in the middle to a height of 60m, evoking imagery of a celestial crane taking wing and underscoring central China rise and improved access to transit. The Wuhan Station was the first station in China to introduce the design that placed the train inside of the central hall. Additionally, the design also uses the ground source heat pump AC system, natural daylight roof, photovoltaic self-sustaining electrical power, and other energy-efficient technologies. The roof is made up of a combination of aluminum panels and PC boards that introduce natural light. Beneath the roof is an aluminum pipe ceiling with micro-perforation with a diameter of 70mm that is placed at intervals of 70mm. The perforation was only located at the bottom of the ceiling, so each pipe forms an individual plenum to absorb and consume the sound wave. The rotund surface of the pipe ceiling also offers a light diffusion of the sound and light waves while enhancing the sound focus that rises from the arched dome.
